Well, it's kinda like this…..You know how you go to your favorite bar? And your favorite bartender isn't there? You ask, "Where's Kyle?" "Kyle is no longer here, I'm Joe". Then you're thinking, hey, who is this guy? I like Kyle. But you still want your drink. And even though Joe doesn't mix your drinks the same way you're used to, like Kyle. You still like the bar, and you don't want to have to go to a different bar. And even Joe might feel bad because Kyle trained him. Kyle showed him how to work the cash register, where the tonic was on the soda gun, who tips, who doesn't. Well, I'm Joe, what can I get ya?
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, spent with family and friends. A big thanks to Kyle and Caryn Koffel for hosting a benefit Christmas cocktail party. A good time was had by all, and the money raised was directed towards those in our community who need it the most during the holidays. I tip my hat to all of those who contributed; the overwhelming response truly shows how much The Harleysville Jaycees care about our community and all of its residents. Also, many thanks to Dana Ziegler and Kent Krauss for all of your Angel Tree efforts. The feeling just completes the holiday spirit.
Another bit of good news: Chase Folweiler was released from the hospital and spent the holidays at home. After tasting the hospital food, I can't say I blame you one bit, Chase. Asked for comment, Chase just opened his eyes, let out a burp, and promptly spit up all over Mark's shirt. Sorry about that, Mark. Everyone is doing great and we wish them only the best in 2008.
And, yes, it is a new year and that can mean only one thing, yep, the fair is only 5 months away. It's just like your rear view mirror says, it's closer than it appears. It is never too early to start thinking. So, bring any new ideas, stories or suggestions to the next Jaycees meeting. Also welcome at the next, or any, Jaycees meeting are new and/or prospective members. Thank you James Hope for boosting our membership rolls lately. We welcome all our new members and if there is anyone they know, that they think will enjoy what the Jaycees are all about, please invite them.
I look forward to serving the Jaycees this year, and with everyone's help we can make this another great year. Some of the highlights this year include Wine Tasting, March 1st, President's Cocktail Party, May 3rd, The Fair, May 21st-24th, State Board Meeting, TBD (we have been absent from this meeting for a couple of years, so let's make a strong showing in 2008), Charter Night, TBD, and the 2nd Annual Cigar Night, TBD.
This months Jaycees meeting will be on Jan. 9th at 7 pm at the Rising Sun Inn. There is not a guest speaker planned as we ease back into our routine. We will be looking at having a variety of speakers in the course of the year at the meetings. Please respond to this email so I know who is coming to the meeting.
Aloha, Joseph Karwoski
