Help Support a Great Cause - March 4th, 2008

Posted by harleysvillejcs on February 1st, 2008

PLEASE take a moment to read about the noble cause I’d love for you to help us support!

On of past clients and good friends have a son that is handicapped. When they purchased their home a year ago their move was inspired by their son Mason. The new property would give them the opportunity to have enough space to accommodate his needs, the only draw back to the home is that they would need to install a ramp or elevator to get his wheel chair into the home. Unfortunately the estimates they had received prior to buying the home were unrealistic, the contractor didn’t take into account the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements. Once in the home they were informed, after more research, that the ramp would cost them $30,000 or the less expensive route would be to install an elevator at a cost of $20,000. I highly doubt that anyone of us would have the money readily available for such a huge expense….

Attached is a flyer asking for your help and support!  Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger in Chalfont has arranged a fund raiser to help support Mason’s needs, on March 4th any purchases at the restaurant will generate a 15% donation of the sale to Mason. Although this is a good start, I would greatly appreciate if you can’t make it to the Cheeseburger Factory on March 4th, that you contact Christine directly to make a small donation to help them. Christine and her husband Steven are great people and have done everything they can to help their son through his challenging disability, please help me make their situation and Mason’s life a little easier! I realize that the Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger isn’t convenient for everyone, so whatever is easier is certainly appreciated!

Please see attached flyer below & print out to take along with you on the fourth. Thanks.

Newest Member of the Jaycee Family

Posted by harleysvillejcs on January 28th, 2008

Just wanted to let everyone know that Doug & Julie had their baby at 4:30a this morning, Tuesday 1/22/08… She’s absolutely beautiful! She came with all 10 finger & 10 toes, a full head of blonde hair, and luckily NONE of her father’s looks… ha ha!

She weighted in at 6lbs, 11oz, and was 20”. They Named her Kameron Hope Ziegler. (Not exactly sure on the spelling, they were going back and forth…?)

Please feel free to pass along the good news to all!

Harleysville Jaycees January President’s Newsletter

Posted by harleysvillejcs on January 4th, 2008

Well, it's kinda like this…..You know how you go to your favorite bar?  And your favorite bartender isn't there?  You ask, "Where's Kyle?"  "Kyle is no longer here, I'm Joe".  Then you're thinking, hey, who is this guy?  I like Kyle.  But you still want your drink.  And even though Joe doesn't mix your drinks the same way you're used to, like Kyle.  You still like the bar, and you don't want to have to go to a different bar.  And even Joe might feel bad because Kyle trained him.  Kyle showed him how to work the cash register, where the tonic was on the soda gun, who tips, who doesn't.  Well, I'm Joe, what can I get ya?

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, spent with family and friends.  A big thanks to Kyle and Caryn Koffel for hosting a benefit Christmas cocktail party.  A good time was had by all, and the money raised was directed towards those in our community who need it the most during the holidays.  I tip my hat to all of those who contributed; the overwhelming response truly shows how much The Harleysville Jaycees care about our community and all of its residents.  Also, many thanks to Dana Ziegler and Kent Krauss for all of your Angel Tree efforts.  The feeling just completes the holiday spirit.

Another bit of good news:  Chase Folweiler was released from the hospital and spent the holidays at home.  After tasting the hospital food, I can't say I blame you one bit, Chase.  Asked for comment, Chase just opened his eyes, let out a burp, and promptly spit up all over Mark's shirt.  Sorry about that, Mark.  Everyone is doing great and we wish them only the best in 2008.

And, yes, it is a new year and that can mean only one thing, yep, the fair is only 5 months away.  It's just like your rear view mirror says, it's closer than it appears.  It is never too early to start thinking.  So, bring any new ideas, stories or suggestions to the next Jaycees meeting.  Also welcome at the next, or any, Jaycees meeting are new and/or prospective members.  Thank you James Hope for boosting our membership rolls lately.  We welcome all our new members and if there is anyone they know, that they think will enjoy what the Jaycees are all about, please invite them.

I look forward to serving the Jaycees this year, and with everyone's help we can make this another great year.  Some of the highlights this year include Wine Tasting, March 1st, President's Cocktail Party, May 3rd, The Fair, May 21st-24th,  State Board Meeting, TBD (we have been absent from this meeting for a couple of years, so let's make a strong showing in 2008), Charter Night, TBD, and the 2nd Annual Cigar Night, TBD.

This months Jaycees meeting will be on Jan. 9th at 7 pm at the Rising Sun Inn.  There is not a guest speaker planned as we ease back into our routine.  We will be looking at having a variety of speakers in the course of the year at the meetings.  Please respond to this email so I know who is coming to the meeting.

Aloha, Joseph Karwoski

Miscellaneous Jaycees Information

Posted by harleysvillejcs on December 13th, 2007

Greetings. As I announced at last night's meeting, Mark and Jen Folweiler's son Chase is still at CHOP. I talked to Mark yesterday and they are doing okay for all they've been through. The baby's been there since birth ten days ago. Mark really appreciated the call and thanks everyone for your prayers as they certainly feel the effects of the prayers. Yesterday was the first time that they saw the baby without tubes and I.V.'s so it was a good day and they hope to have him home over the weekend. If you get a chance, give them a call, or send them a card or email. I know they'd appreciate it. His contact info is at the bottom of this email. (I left this off due to the fact this is a public forum, please reference the email sent by Kyle or email me through this site and I'll get the address to you, thanks!)
On another topic, Caryn and I are very grateful for the support we are getting for this Christmas thingy at our house tomorrow night. Remember that it starts at 7:30PM and please park in the school lot next to our house. See you all then.
I have a copy of the budget that was amended and approved last night. I will not, however, be posting it on this site -- I will set up a passworded site to the budget link. If you were not at the meeting but would like to view the budget please do the following:
1. Email me offline or through this site.
2. Request the password to view the 2008 Budget.
3. I will give you the password.
I will need a few days to figure out how to make such a link possible on this particular site.

Happy Holidays!

Looking For a Few Good Sponsors

Posted by harleysvillejcs on December 13th, 2007

Fellow Jaycees:

For those of you that do not know, I am on a committee for the Mark Patrick Phelan Foundation which is organizing a golf outing for this upcoming spring. The foundation provides grants to wounded soldiers returning from war or to the families who lost a loved one while fighting for our freedom. Attached is the flyer for the golf benefit which I mentioned at last night’s Jaycees meeting. To reiterate, we are looking for sponsors to help make this year’s event record-breaking. Our goal is to raise $30k and we are depending on the local communities and businesses for support. For those of you that are interested in reserving a foursome, I will let you know once we have filled our sponsorship needs. Thank you in advance for your support!
